Examples of processing personal data include its collection, recording, storage, alteration, transmission, use, viewing, and more. Item 4 of Article 3 of the Data Protection Act further explains what falls under the term "processing".

The data controller for the processing of personal data is the entity that determines the purpose and means of the processing, cf. item 6 of Article 3 of the Data Protection Act. Memoiceland.is acts as the controller when it comes to processing personal data about the company's customers.

When you shop through our online store

Memoiceland.is customers can purchase products through the company's online store. When shopping online, the company collects information about your name, national ID number, phone number, address, postal code, email address, what you intend to buy, how you intend to receive the product, and confirmation that it has been paid for.

The purpose of this collection is to be able to deliver the correct product to the correct location. In this case, the processing of personal data is based on the authorization in item 2 of Article 9 of the Data Protection Act.

When you sign up for our mailing list

On our website, you can sign up for a mailing list if you are interested in receiving information about Memoiceland.is's activities, such as new products and offers. The processing of personal data is then based on your consent, cf. item 1 of Article 9 of the Data Protection Act.

When you send us an email or contact us through the website

You can send Memoiceland.is an email or an inquiry through the website if you have any questions regarding our operations. Generally, the authorization for processing personal data in these cases is based on your consent, cf. item 1 of Article 9 of the Data Protection Act.

When you send us messages on Facebook or Instagram

Memoiceland.is is on Facebook and Instagram to increase the company's visibility. You can send us messages there if you have any questions regarding our operations. The authorization for processing personal data is then generally based on your consent, cf. item 1 of Article 9 of the Data Protection Act.

Invoicing and bookkeeping

When you shop through our online store, we register you as a customer in our financial system. This is necessary to generate the appropriate invoice. The processing of personal data is then based on the authorization in item 2 of Article 9 of the Data Protection Act.

When you, or your employer, are in a business relationship with us

Memoiceland.is has business relationships with various parties, such as those who sell specific professional services to the company, allocate equipment, or undertake specific tasks. These parties can be either legal entities or individuals. In a business relationship, Memoiceland.is collects necessary contact information such as name and email address.

When an individual provides services in their own name, the processing of personal data is based on item 2 of Article 9 of the Data Protection Act. When an individual acts on behalf of a company, the processing of personal data is based on legitimate interests, cf. item 6 of Article 9 of the Data Protection Act.

Essential cookies. These cookies are necessary for our website to function normally. The authorization for this is based on item 6 of Article 9 of the Data Protection Act.

Statistical cookies

Memoiceland.is uses cookies to analyze the use of the company's website. This provides information such as how many users open certain subpages on the website, how long they are viewed, from which websites users come to the site, and what type of browser they use to view it. The authorization for this is based on your consent, cf. item 1 of Article 9 of the Data Protection Act.

Marketing cookies. We also use marketing cookies to display advertisements that we believe you will be interested in and that relate to the company's activities. The authorization for this is based on your consent, cf. item 1 of Article 9 of the Data Protection Act.

Disclosure of personal data to third parties

Memoiceland.is uses electronic solutions from third parties that facilitate the company's ability to manage and disseminate information. The owners of these solutions may have access to personal data. The company always enters into a processing agreement with the relevant service provider in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act. Such an agreement stipulates, among other things, their obligation to observe the strictest confidentiality, ensure security, and process personal data only in accordance with the instructions of Memoiceland.is.

In certain cases, Memoiceland.is may share personal data with a third party who is not bound by the company's instructions regarding its handling. If you pay with or Síminn Pay, a copy of your order is shared with the owner of the solution. Please note that Facebook also has access to all messages you send there and on Instagram. It should be noted that these parties are obliged to process personal data in accordance with data protection laws, even if they are not bound by Memoiceland.is's instructions regarding their handling.

Security of personal data

Memoiceland.is has implemented technical and organizational security measures to ensure adequate security of personal data. Access controls are in place for the company's systems and premises. These security measures are intended to protect personal data against alteration, loss, disclosure, or unauthorized access.

Retention period of personal data

Memoiceland.is stores personal data for the period necessary for the company to have them at hand. Accounting records are stored for seven years in accordance with the Accounting Act no. 145/1994. Footage from surveillance cameras is stored for a maximum of 90 days but may be stored longer for specific reasons, such as for investigation purposes. When Memoiceland.is no longer needs personal data, the company securely deletes it.

Your rights

You enjoy certain rights under data protection laws. If you wish to exercise these rights, you may contact us via email. We have one month to respond to your request, but we may extend the deadline by two months if the request is particularly extensive. It should be noted that your rights are not absolute and may be subject to certain conditions. Here is an overview of your main rights:

Right to access. You have the right to request access to your data and receive a copy of your personal data.

Right to rectification. You have the right to have inaccurate or incomplete information about you corrected.

Right to erasure. In certain cases, you may have the right to have your personal data erased. This applies especially in cases where the information is no longer necessary, you have objected to the processing, the processing proves to be unlawful, or if the processing is based on consent that you have withdrawn.

Right to object to processing. If our processing of personal data is based on legitimate interests, and you believe that it violates your fundamental rights, you can object to the processing. We will then cease the processing unless we demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for continuing it.

Right to restriction of processing. In the following cases, you have the right to have us stop processing personal data:

If you contest the accuracy of the personal data (until we can verify its accuracy).
The processing is unlawful, but you do not want the personal data to be erased.
We no longer need the information, but you need it to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
You have objected to the processing, and we have not demonstrated compelling legitimate grounds for continuing it.
Right to withdraw consent. In cases where our processing is based on your consent, you are always permitted to withdraw such consent. However, withdrawal of consent does not mean that the processing that took place before the consent was withdrawn is unlawful.

Right to lodge a complaint with the Icelandic Data Protection Authority. If you believe that your personal data is not being processed in accordance with data protection laws, you always have the right to lodge a complaint with the Icelandic Data Protection Authority (www.personuvernd.is).
